Special Screening of Global Warming Film Set for Saturday
Speaking of the lies and distortions about global warming, the Wake County Progressive Democrats are holding a special public screening of a film that aims to set the record straight: "An Inconvenient Truth," which documents former U.S. Senator and presidential candidate Al Gore's crusade to save the planet from devastating climate change by exposing the myths and misconceptions clouding the issue.
Directed by Davis Guggenheim, the film has been garnering rave reviews. "In 39 years, I have never written these words in a movie review, but here they are: You owe it to yourself to see this film," wrote Chicago Sun-Times critic Roger Ebert. "If you do not, and you have grandchildren, you should explain to them why you decided not to." The film opens in Raleigh on Friday, June 16 at the Colony Theater.
The scientific evidence that human beings are driving the planet's climate to a dangerous tipping point is overwhelming. However, the energy industry's disinformation campaign has created the illusion that the reality of global warming is still up for debate.
The special screening will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 17 at the Colony at 5438 Six Forks Rd. in Raleigh, with U.S. Rep. Brad Miller (D-N.C.) introducing the film. The cost of admission is $10, with proceeds going to support progressive candidates and causes affecting Wake County. The Wake County Progressive Democrats are part of the Progressive Democrats of North Carolina Caucus.
